First semester of a three-course sequence for students planning to major in physics, other physical sciences, and engineering. Motion in one and two dimensions; Newton's laws; work and energy; conservation of energy; systems of particles; rotations; oscillations; gravity; thermodynamics. In addition to Two 75-minute lectures each week, One workshop/recitation each week and One three-hour laboratory every other week is required. Laboratory registration is done at the same time as the course registration. The workshop/recitation times are determined by the instructor. This course is offered in Spring and Summer session (A-6).
