Candidates whose interests are synergistic with the unique opportunities offered through the Laboratory for Laser Energetics (www.lle.rochester.edu) are particulary encouraged to apply. These areas of interest include, but are not limited to, HED physics, inertial confinement fusion, laboratory astrophysics, and high intensity laser-plasma interactions. The Department maintains a strong program in plasma astrophysics and the Laboratory for Laser Energetics is a unique ICF facility that includes the OMEGA 60 beam and OMEGA EP, 4 beam Petawatt laser system.
Each candidate should submit a cover letter of application, a curriculum vitae including a list of publications, and a description of research and teaching plans. The candidate should arrange for at least four letters of recommendation to be sent to:
Professor Nicholas Bigelow, Chair
Department of Physics and Astronomy
University of Rochester
Rochester, New York 14627-0171, USA
Applications and letters of recommendation (preferably in pdf format) may also be submitted by email sent to Shirley Brignall (shirl@pas.rochester.edu ) with the subject line “HED faculty position.”
Applications will be considered on an ongoing basis. The University of Rochester has a strong commitment to diversity and actively encourages applications from candidates from groups underrepresented in higher education. The University of Rochester is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer and encourages applicants from members of minority groups and women. All applications are considered without regard to race, sex, age, religion or national origin. Salary will be competitive.
Inquiries about the position may be sent to Prof. Adam Frank (afrank@pas.rochester.edu ).
Tenure Track Faculty Position in Biological Physics
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Rochester invites applications for a faculty position in Biological Physics. Applicants should have a Ph.D., an outstanding record of research, and a commitment to excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and the graduate level.
The positions are anticipated to be junior, tenure track appointments; however, applicants at a more senior level will also be considered. Candidates in any area of experimental or theoretical biological physics are invited to apply. For experimentalists, those with interests in neuroscience or optical approaches are particularly encouraged.
Salary will be competitive, and applications from women and members of underrepresented minority groups are encouraged. Applications will be considered on an ongoing basis. Graduate Assistantships
Students admitted to the Department's graduate program usually receive financial support either from the Department or from external foundations. For further information, go here.
Undergraduate Summer Research Positions
Through its NSF funded REU Program (Research Experiences for Undergraduates), the Department has summer positions available for undergraduate research assistants. For further information about the REU program, go here.
Paid summer research positions are available in Italy through a DOE-NSF/INFN student exchange program. Applicants must be US citizens who have completed at least three years of an undergraduate curriculum in physics, engineering or computing science in a US University. For further details, go here.
Undergraduate Teaching Internship Positions
The Department has positions during the academic year for undergraduate students to serve as teaching interns in introductory physics and astronomy courses. Interns typically work as teaching assistants in laboratory or recitation sections, or serve as workshop leaders. The internship program is open to all undergraduate science majors. For further information, go here.
Postdoctoral Positions
The Marshak Fellowship in Particle and Nuclear Physics has been established to offer young scientists the opportunity to pursue innovative research at the University of Rochester in the fields of particle and nuclear physics, plasma astrophysics, and plasma physics and controlled fusion.
