What We Do In a broad sense, the CAT (Cooling and Trapping) Group of Profesor Nicholas P. Bigelow is interested in understanding the interactions between light and matter. More specifically, in our labs, we use laser light to control and manipulate atoms.

We invite you to take a closer look at what is currently being studied here: simply click on our ongoing projects, examine our publications, take a peek at the group members, and feel free to use the links to your left at any time.

If you are not a physicist or if you want to get an elementary overview of this field, we strongly recommend our Basic Introduction page.
