Experiment # 3, Lab Report Point Distribution
The maximum number of points for the lab report is 100. The following list shows how these 100 points are distributed.
10 points: overall layout.
See http://www.pas.rochester.edu/~tdimino/phy143/GeneralInfo/WritingInformation/Write_Report.html for a description of the layout of a good lab report.
10 points: overall style of the writing. Can the reader follow the story? Does the writing make sense from a logical point of view?
- Is the report well structured?
- Is the text well written and edited?
20 points: Layout, figures and tables: Is good use made of supporting materials (tables, figures, etc.)? Is the report well organized?
- Did you include your data in table format with the proper number of significant figures and errors?
- Are data tables numbered and referred to in the text?
- Do graphs have labeled axes with units and error bars when appropriate?
- Do figures have appropriate captions?
30 points: Experimental Method and description: How well was your experimental procedure designed? Did you explain your motivation for deciding to conduct the experiment the way you did?
- Did your experiment successfully address the question posed by the lab manual?
- Did you take an appropriate number of data points?
- Did you eliminate or compensate for sources of error?
- Did you explain the equipment you used?
- Did you explain your procedure well, i.e. so that it would be possible to reproduce your work using only the report as a reference?
30 points: Analysis: Did you correctly analyze your data, conducting proper error analysis? Do your conclusions follow from this analysis?
- How did you combine your measurements to reach a conclusion?
- How did you estimate errors and include them in your analysis?
