Physics & Astronomy

Research

From the formation of stars, planetary systems, black notes, and galaxies, to the study of quarks, bosons, and other subatomic particles . . . from the underlying reasons for global warming to the creation of ultra cold quantum gases . . . the research interest of Physics and Astronomy faculty members are diverse and wide-ranging. Indeed, the Department has internationally recognized research efforts in virtually all major subfields of physics and astronomy. Twenty-three of our faculty are Fellows of the American Physical Society, three are Fellows of the Optical Society of America, and one is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
