PHY 418: Statistical Mechanics I

Course Instructors

The instructor for this course is Prof. Stephen Teitel. Prof. Teitel has been at the University of Rochester for over 30 years. He is a condensed matter theoriest who uses large scale numerical simulations to study phase transitions in different physical systems. His recent work has been on the flow and jamming of granular materials.

Office Hour: Prof. Teitel's office hour is Mondays 2:30-3:30pm. You may sign up for a one-on-one time slot during 2:30-3:00, or just drop in from 3:00-3:30. If this time is not convenient, please feel free to contact Prof. Teitel by email to arrange another time to chat. Office hour will be conducted via Zoom. Use the office hour Zoom link found on the PHY418 Home Page on Blackboard.

For students abroad, Prof. Teitel will have an additional office hour on Mondays 8:00-9:00am. You must sign up here by 6pm Sunday to schedule a meeting.

Prof. Teitel will be leading the Zoom discussion sessions on Wednesdays from 10:25-11:40am. Go to the PHY418 Home Page on Blackboard to see the Zoom link.

The Teaching Assistant for this course is Maida Tariq, who is a 4th year graduate student in the Department who works in experimental high energy physics. Maida will be grading your Problem Set assignments. If you have any questions or complaints about how your Problem Sets have been graded, please contact Maida first. If that does not provide satisfaction, then contact Prof. Teitel
