Batting

Green has an impatient eye at the plate, and is likely to swing at the first low pitch anywhere near the plate. He is a striking lowball hitter, often lofting flyballs into right or right-center field, although he is capable of spraying groundballs all over the field. His power is developing substantially, although he remains for the most part a high average singles hitter. With the new addition of the walk rules, his patience at the plate may be sorely tested. although he has managed one walk each year. His speed on the bases is average, and his baserunning instincts are still developing.

Defense

Green has shown that Priority One is "Avoid taking the softball in the chest." Priority Two is "Catch the ball." This tendency makes Green a natural outfielder, albeit one who should avoid slippery grass in the future. He can cover significant ground in the outfield but is sorely out of practice at actually catching the ball. He needs to work on throws to first base.

2008 Outlook

Green made it through 2007 without shattering any wrists! Yay. He also hit his first pair of homeruns, set career highs in slugging percentage, extra-base hits, doubles, singles, RBI, runs, games, plate appearances, hits, and just generally had a long and productive year, splitting time between two different teams (and two different leagues). He hopes to continue the momentum next season! He has signed a three year deal with Texas for the 2009-2011 seasons.

2009 Outlook

Green made followed up his record setting 2007 with an exciting concluding season in Rochester, setting new career highs in hits, singles, walks, runs, batting average, on-base percentage, and also managed his first strikeout since 2003. Well. It remains to be seen if the trade to the warm climes of Texas will adversely affect his hitting skills, and is now a proud co-manager of the Ultra Deep Fielders of the Astronomy Department at the University of Texas at Austin. The second season has begun in October, and he hopes to get more (limited) playing time! He also dropped in for a guest appearance with Freud's Mom in the Rochester Summer League, which will end up a significant fraction of his total at-bats.

How's Joel doing in his fantasy baseball leagues as alter ego team "the Manhattan Barbarians"?

2009 Season

Answer: In the Beer League, the Barbarians completely collapsed into 11th place after losing the first round of the consolation bracket, with the 9th best regular season finish.

In the Puppet League, the Barbarians pushed their way to the championship round, where they were soundly trounced, to a 2nd place finish (although they had the best regular season record!).

2004 Season

Answer: I managed the best record in Eric's league, before being stomped by said Eric in the final round of the playoffs, for a 2nd place finish. In Scott's league... um, 7th out of 9. It was an unusual league, scoring-wise.

The Final Standings:

Eric Page's "B&L Freaks and Friends"
Scott Cioffari's "Luxury Tax Smashers"

2003 Season

Answer: I managed a meager 8th place finish (out of 12) in Eric's league. My experience was still building...

The Final Standings:

Eric Page's "Return of Les Expos"

2002 Season

Answer: I think I only played in a "stock market" style league this year and the results are unrecorded. I don't think I did that well.

2001 Season

Answer: A solid record and a massive playoff surge propelled the Manhattan AGN (early form of the team) to 2nd place out of 12!

The Final Standings:

Scott Cioffari's "The Disgruntled Slugger"
