PHY 217: Electricity and Magnetism I
Prof. S. Teitel stte@pas.rochester.edu ---- Fall 2016
Problem Set 11
Due Tuesday, December 6, by 4pm in the homework locker
- Problem 1 [10 points]
Griffiths problem 4.7 -- one way to do this problem is to think of the dipole as being described by a charge distribution ρ(r) which is neutral but has a non-zero dipole moment p. Consider the interaction energy between this ρ(r) and the potential Vext(r) that gives the external electric field E. You should assume that Vext(r) varies slowly on the length scale over which ρ(r) is spread out.
- Problem 2 [10 points]
Griffiths problem 4.10
- Problem 3 [10 points]
Griffiths problem 4.21
- Problem 4 [10 points]
Griffiths problem 4.35
- Problem 5 [10 points]
Griffiths problem 4.36
