Wave clouds

Met Ed Courses:

The World Meteorology Commission for Aeronautical Meteorology (CAeM) web site includes worldwide links to aeronautical meteorology.

An especially useful link is to the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) in Boulder Colorado which implemented a community program called COMET that provides online course material on aeronautical meteorology. To access this material you first need to become a registered member. A syllabus for the over 60 hours of excellent course material is available at UCAR-COMET the bulk of which is important to understanding soaring weather. One interesting component of the course is:
Mountain Waves and Downslope Winds

Cloud Reading:

An essential skill for soaring is the ability to quickly read the clouds and interpret where the best sources of lift can be found. The following references should be studied to improve your ability to read clouds.
